Emma Jean Turnage, 68 of Elkin, passed away Sunday Sept. 20, 2009 at Heritage Care of Elkin. Ms.Turnage was born April 3, 1941 in Meridian Mississippi to Edward Wilson Turnage, Sr. and Margaret Louisa May Turnage. She was retired from Tyson of Wilkesboro and was of the Episcopal Faith. Survivors include; two daughters, Joyce Hanks of Elkin, and Judy Biedrycki and her husband Stephen, of Stuart Va., two brothers, E.W. "Sonny" Turnage Jr. and wife Ann, and William Davy "Dave" Turnage and wife Lana, all of Meridian Miss.; three sisters, Ruby Ida Poole and husband Aubert, of Collinsville Miss., Joyce McCarty of Albuq., New Mexico, and Wilma Sharron Goodin and husband Butch, of Enterprise, Miss.; four grandchildren, Nathan Hanks of Japan, Jacob Hanks of Wilkesboro, Joshua and Jared Biedrycki both of Stuart, Va., Several nieces and nephews, Great nieces and nephews, and Great-Great nephews. Ms.Turnage will be returned to her home of Meridian Miss., where a memorial service will be held at Lost Gap Independent Protestant Church on October 3, 2009 at 2:00pm followed by a graveside service at Meehan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Humane Society of Wilkes, PO Box 306 N. Wilkesboro, NC 28659, or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621. The Family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Heritage Care of Elkin, and to Mountain Valley Hospice for their love and care.
