Mrs. Rebecca Hemric Newman, 59 of State Road, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Newman was born January 19, 1951 in Surry County to Ivan Hemric and Bernice Gentry Benton. She was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Hemric was the most wonderful wife, mother, and Nana in the world. She was loved very much and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by a baby brother, James Hemric. She is survived by her husband, Ricky Newman of State Road; two daughters, Robin Minton and husband Jackie and Melissa White and husband Brent, all of Elkin; a step daughter, Mamie Holbrook and husband Darren of Elkin; a step son, Shane Newman of Elkin; a brother, Ivan Hemric Jr. of Ronda; two sisters, Vivian Combs and husband Alan of Jonesville and Sherry Holleman and husband Bud of Hamptonville; a granddaughter, Jade Tate and husband Andrew; four step grandchildren, Logan Minton, Emily Minton, Lakyn Holbrook, and Dylan Holbrook; a special aunt, Colleen Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews that were very special to her. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Fall Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Don Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service.
