Mrs. Joyce Nichols Smith, age 64, of Dobbins Mill Road, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. Smith was born May 28, 1940 in Surry County to Walter & Flora Hodges Nichols.

Mrs. Smith worked for 32 years for AT&T and 11 years with Lydall. She was a member of Mtn. Park Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Nick Nichols; two sisters, Rachel Walker and Beulah Prevette.

Survivors include: Her husband of 46 years, David Smith of the home; a daughter, Lisa Whisenhunt and husband Doug of Elkin; a sister, Dorothy Mitchell of Clemmons, two grandchildren, Hannah Smith and Dillon Whisenhunt both of Elkin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 4, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Grady Trivette. Burial will follow at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Hospice of Surry County, 1326 North Main Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
