Thurmond Mr. Sammy Clingman Deborde, age 76, of Sylvan Road, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Deborde was born December 24, 1927 in Surry County to Thomas Cleveland & Lydia Johnson Deborde. Mr. Deborde was a retired Aircraft Electrician and a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was also a member of the Elkin Masonic Lodge 454 and Elkin Lyons Club. He was a veteran of the US Navy and Naval Reserve and served during World War II. Sammy lived in Jacksonville, Florida for 31 years and returned to Elkin in 1985. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step grandson, Brick Allen Heath. Survivors include: his wife of 57 years, Frances Deborde of the home; two sons, Thomas Deborde and wife Lyn of Jacksonville, Fla., Tim Deborde and wife Salley of Spindale, NC; a sister, Betty Ann Bowman of Hickory; two grandchildren, Aimee and Jon; two step grandchildren, Scott and Jimi-Lyn; eight great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 15, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church by Rev. Johnny Blevins, Rev. Charles Lethcoe and Dr. Bill Johnson. There will be a family greeting from 5:30-7:00 p.m. prior to the memorial service at Elkin Valley Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Elkin Valley Baptist Church Building Fund at 118 North Elkin Drive, Elkin, NC 28621. Mrs. Deborde and the family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Thomas Hinson, Andrea Payne and the nurses and respiratory therapists of the eight and fifth floors of Forsyth Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Deborde family.
