James Garfield Booker, Jr.

Elkin, James Garfield Booker, Jr., 83 of Elkin, passed away Friday, October 1, 2010. Mr. Booker was born May 14, 1927 in Surry County to James G. Booker, Sr. and Lula Moss Booker. He served in US Navy and retired from Yadkin Finance. Mr. Booker was a deacon at Elkin Presbyterian Church, a member of the Moose Lodge and JCC, president of the Elkin Redskins, and served on the Board of Elections. In addition to his parents, Mr. Booker was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Clara Easter Booker; five sisters, Pearl Hall, Lois Golden, Oneida Blansett, Carrie Vernon, and Cassie Shelton; and four brothers, Moore Booker, Billy Booker, Thomas Booker, and Herman Booker. He is survived by two sons, James Garfield Booker III of Maitland, FL, and Michael Booker and wife Glenda of State Road; a daughter, Catherine Booker of Greenville, NC; a sister, Mary Hope Golding of Mt. Airy; and six grandchildren, Michael Heath Booker, Alexandria Elizabeth Booker, Allison Casey Booker, Christiana Booker, James Garfield Booker IV, and Juliana Booker. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 3:30 pm at Elkin Presbyterian Church with Rev. Brian Rummage officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elkin Presbyterian Church, 151 Hillcrest Drive, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to express their appreciation to Maureen Gates, Louise Billings, Jasmin Davis, Peggy Pettaway, and the staff of Elkin Dialysis as well as FMCNA-Pitt County Dialysis for all the loving care shown to Mr. Booker during his time of illness.
