Elkin Wesley Albert Gregory, age 90, of Johnson Ridge Road, passed away Saturday July 7, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mr. Gregory was born June 15, 1917 in Iredell County to Wesley Arms and Lena Journey Gregory. Mr. Gregory retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company and was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church. He was a past member of the Elkin Lions Club and VFW Post 7794. Mr. Gregory enjoyed spending his time golfing, gardening and helping others. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Rumell Roberts Gregory and five sisters, Madge Pierce, Corrine Roberts, Patty Weaver, Hazel Van Hoy, and Connie Somers. Survivors include: A daughter and son in law, Sena Hinson and husband Randy, two grandchildren, Whitney Speer and husband Aaron, and Allie Hinson all of Elkin. A brother, Vance Gregory. Two sisters, Anna Lou Van Hoy and Polly Coombes and husband Kenneth all of Union Grove. A graveside service will be held Monday July 9, 2007 at 4pm at Crestwood Memorial Gardens by Dr. Bill Johnson. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at Elkin First Baptist Church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Hugh Chatham Nursing Center or Share-A-Home in Boonville or Elkin First Baptist Church.
