Beatrice Newman Vestal

December 3, 1918 — October 16, 2006

Elkin, Mrs. Beatrice Newman Vestal, age 87, of Masonic Drive, passed away Monday, October 16, 2006 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Vestal was born December 3, 1918 in Surry County to Sherman & Belle Blackburn Newman. Mrs. Vestal was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church, VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary where she was past president. She was retired from Royal Drug Company and she was also owner and operator of Vestal Gem Shop for 43 years along with her husband where they traveled all over the United States doing gem shows. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Vestal and brothers, Graham Newman and Bill Newman. Survivors include: a daughter, Brenda Flanner of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Kimberly Shelton and husband Pete of Walnut Cove. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. by Dr. Bill Johnson and Rev. Rebecca Maynard. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the Kate B.
