Elkin Mrs. Shelby Jeane Weatherman Martin, age 71, of Preacher Field Road passed away August 27, 2008 at the Sticht Center of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Martin was born February 27, 1937 in Yadkin County to Thurmond Odell "T.O." & Marshall Atkins Bryant Weatherman. Jeane was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and retired from the Tribune. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Thomas Martin. Survivors include: two sons, Steve Martin and wife Sandra, Scott Martin and wife Kathy; two daughters, Gail Whitaker and husband Tim, Sarah Byrd and husband Jerry; seven grandchildren, Dawn Joines and husband Ed, Andrea Ashley and husband Brandon, Wendy Jolly and husband Tracy, Wesley Martin, Luke Martin, Nikyshia Martin and Hunter Martin; four great grandchildren, Austin Joines, Kyra Joines, Emma Jolly and Zane Ashley; a special friend and companion, Jimmy Whitaker. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dan Merritt. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Brenners Children's Hospital, Development Office, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021.
