King Mrs. Willie Maxine Transou Burchette who was affectionately known as “Granny Bill”, age 84, of Ingram Road, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Village Care of King. Mrs. Burchette was born October 24, 1923 in Surry County to Howard H. & Beautris Claire Burchett Transou. Willie was a homemaker and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge Burchette; her granddaughter, Abbye Smith; a brother, Sam Transou. Survivors include: a son, Ben Keesee and wife Karen of Millers Creek; two daughters, Betty Smith and husband Bob of Rural Hall, Bonnie Bennett of Bentonville, Ark.; a brother, Herbert Transou of Elkin; two sisters, Clara Transou of Elkin, Ruby Freeman of Boonville; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Richard Lenderman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Village Care of King, 440 Ingram Road, King, NC 27021.
