Lorie Kirby O'Neal

September 27, 1923 — August 16, 2005

N. Wilkesboro Mr. Lorie Kirby O'Neal, age 81, of Beaumont Elm Street, passed away Monday, August 16, 2005 at his residence. Mr. O'Neal was born September 27, 1923 in Bibb County, Ga to Obie & Jennie Latson O'Neal. Mr. O'Neal was retired from the US Postal Service and was a veteran of WWII. He was a member of Peace Haven Baptist Church in N. Wilkesobo and was a master mason of York Lodge #385 and Eastern Star Catawba 131 both of Rock Hill, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lorie Kirby O'Neal, Jr. and a brother, Willie Russell O'Neal. Survivors include: his wife, Marian Elliott O'Neal of the home; a son, Elliott Wheeler of Columbia, SC and a daughter, Lorie Dobert of Greensboro; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Haven Baptist Church in N. Wilkesboro by Rev. Tim Pruitt. Entombment will follow at Mount Lawn Mausoleum with military rites provided by VFW Blue Ridge Mountain Post No. 1142. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the O'Neal family.
