Lucile Cockerham Golden

Mrs. Lucile Cockerham Golden, age 87, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Avante at Charlotte. Mrs. Golden was born August 1, 1924 in Surry County to Luther Edgar and Laura Jane Layne Cockerham. She was retired from Wachovia Bank and was member of First Baptist Church of Elkin, where she served as church treasurer for more than 20 years. Mrs. Golden loved God, her church, her family, and the Town of Elkin. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Reece Cockerham, Fred Cockerham, Tom Cockerham, and John Cockerham and one sister, Ola Jean Prevette. Survivors include: her husband of 44 years, Howard Franklin Golden; daughters, Debbie Long Bell and her husband Mike of Columbia, SC and Betsy Long Furr and her husband Bobby of Matthews; step daughter, Elizabeth Davis and her husband Tony of Rougemont; brother, J.V. Cockerham and his wife Louise of Elkin; sister, Roette Peeples of Clemmons; grandchildren, Leanne Bell Sheik and her husband Justin of Matthews, Blair Bell Nelson and her husband Jacob of Clemson, SC, Morgan L. Furr of Charleston; step grandchildren, Kim Hicks and her husband Adam of Burlington and Corey McKinney of Henderson; great grandchild, Blakely Sheik; step great grandchildren, Sloane Cox and Ashley Cox. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Elkin with Dr. Bill Johnson, Hospice Chaplain and Rev. Don Durham officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
