Desree Carter Martin

State Road Mrs. Desree Carter Martin, age 87 of Pleasant Ridge Road, passed away Monday, November 10, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Martin was born in Surry County to James Daniel & Alice Layell Carter. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard Martin; a daughter, Julia Proveaux; a son, Graham Martin. Survivors include: a son, Jerry Martin of Elkin; a daughter, Shirley Britt of Ronda; a son-in-law, Jim Proveaux of Elkin; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Martin of Elkin; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church by Rev. Dan Merritt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
