Elkin Ronald Leroy Showalter, age 70, of Carter Mill Road, Elkin, NC, passed away Sunday February 3, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Showalter was born October 11, 1937 in Stark County, Ohio to Franklin Ira & Mildred Marie Sell Showalter. Mr. Showalter was retired from Hunters Creek Country Club and was a veteran of the United States Army. Ronald was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Verese "Skip" McCulla; a brother, Richard Showalter. Survivors include: a son, Ronald Showalter and his fiancée Sandi Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; four daughters, Sharon McKague and husband Michael, Barbara Gary and husband Glen all of Elkin, NC, Joanne Showalter of Kissimmee, Fla., Kathy Brookens and husband Ron of Louisville, OH; four brothers, Frank Showalter and Phillip Showalter both of Canton, OH, Richard McCulla of North Canton, OH, Gary Showalter of Lewisville, NC; a sister, Ethel Shaver of Carrollton, OH; a half sister, Shirley Simmering of Lutz, Fla.; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Stewart Roten. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
