Amy Sloop Nelson, age 70, of Elkin, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023 at SECU Hospice Home in Yadkinville.
Amy was born July 20, 1953 in Surry County to Everett Alexander and Oma Haynes Sloop. Amy loved music, singing, dancing and drinking a cold one from time to time to let loose. Amy loved going to the beach with family and sitting on her porch watching hummingbirds while drinking her morning cup of coffee. But mostly, Amy loved time with her children and grandchildren. Amy loved the outdoors, gardening, canning and her plants. She also enjoyed her trips to Santee with her best friend whom she has known since 5th grade, Ruth “Button” Winters.
In addition to her parents, Amy was preceded in death by her sister, Cynthia Sloop Hutchens.
Survivors include: Greg Sloop of Boonville, Brian Wood and wife Debbie Wood of Hamptonville, Allison Reid and husband Keith of Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Jennifer Hurt and husband Andrew, Michael Wood and wife Taylor and Taylor Boles and husband Kque. Amy also has 6 great grandchildren, Asher, Shiloh, Silas, Beckham, Rhyce and Kylan.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Elkin with the Rev. Matty Ponc-de-Leon officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.

The family would like to thank Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Hugh Chatham Health and SECU Hospice Center of Yadkinville. The family would also like to thank Jennifer Swaim, Sandy Chipman, Donna Cheek, Brenda Combs, Ruth Winters and Vicky Lafoon for spending time with their mom while she was in the hospital.
