Andrea Marie Carden

Andrea Marie Carden, age 38, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center following a brief battle with Leukemia.  She was born April 9, 1982 in Dalton, GA to Donald “Don” W. Carden and Sherry Wall Carden.

Andrea was a perfect daughter to her parents and was a very loving and thoughtful person. She was very intelligent and excelled in academics.  She played basketball from age 7 throughout high school and loved Pat Summitt and watching University of Tennessee Women’s Basketball. Andrea loved her cats, Oliver, Paxton and June Bug. She was Valedictorian of Surry Central High School class of 2000. Andrea received a BA degree in Journalism from Wake Forest University in 2004, a MA degree in Public Policy from UNC-Wilmington and attended the Doctorial program for Health Policy at the University of Maryland at Baltimore.

Andrea was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Mary Kathryn Swaim Wall and paternal grandparents, Coy C. Carden and Carrie Morgan Carden

Survivors include: parents, Don and Sherry Wall Carden of Mountain Park; aunts and uncles; Randy and Sheila Wall of Elkin, June and George Glass of N. Wilkesboro, Perry and Tammy Wall of Elkin, Rosa Lee Swaim Chatman and husband Jim of Elkin, Rev. Bobby Carden of Bladenboro, Tony Carden of Charleston, SC., Homer and Bernie Carden of Durham, Lisa Carden Elliott and her husband Andy Elliott of Roxboro and Brenda C. Walls of Florida

She loved her cousins, Amy Wall Riddle of Elkin, Kari Glass Blackburn and her son, Austin Blackburn of N. Wilkesboro, Stacy Wall Hedrick and her husband Dr. Aubrey Hedrick of Bishop, Ga., Hasten Wall of Elkin, Kristy Wall Collins of Yadkinville, Allison Reeves and her husband Tim of Jonesville, Tim Simmons of Virginia, Mitch Reeves and his wife Megan of Winston Salem and Alysha Simmons of Chapel Hill, Lynn Hughes and Family of Alabama, Kathy and Gary Wheely of Mebane, Phillip and Jill Carden of Mt. Olive, Mark and Sherry Carden of Alabama, Mike and Catherine Carden of Greensboro, Tammie and Bobby Dixon of Durham, Brian Carden of Durham, Richard Carden of Durham and Russell Carden of Maryland; special friends, Sabrina Courter and her husband Sean of Kannapolis and Mandy Davis Holt and her husband Travis of Dobson; and many other extended family members.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, February 19, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. First Baptist Church of Elkin with Rev. Mark Reece, Jr. officiating.  Entombment will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens in State Road. Andrea will lie-in-state from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
