Annie Lee Vanhoy

Mrs. Annie Lee Vanhoy, age 90, of Elkin, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Mrs. Vanhoy was born June 29, 1933 in Wilkes County to Charlie Lawrence Poplin and Janie Martha Harris Poplin.

Mrs. Vanhoy was a member of Charity United Methodist church. She helped others by working as a CNA in the healthcare field. Mrs. Vanhoy enjoyed cooking, making cakes, working puzzles, and sewing. She proudly served her community as a member of the Austin Fire Department starting in 1958 and was the treasurer for 35 years.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Vanhoy was preceded in death by her husband, Howard William Vanhoy and special friend, who was thought of as family, Russell Combs.

Survivors include: her son, Billy Vanhoy and his wife Claudia of Elkin.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Charity United Methodist Church with Rev. David Spicer, Bro. Brian Cothren and Rev. Stacie Eller officiating.  Interment will follow in the Charity United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Elkin Funeral Service, Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
