Arthur Huffman

Mr. Arthur Lawson Huffman, age 78, of Elkin passed away Friday, August 13, 2021 at Conway Medical Center in Conway, SC. Mr. Huffman was born April 26, 1943 in Wilkes County to Claude and Katrina Eller Huffman.

Mr. Huffman was a longtime member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church where he had served as an usher, deacon, church clerk, and superintendent of the adult Sunday school department.  He was a graduate of West Wilkes High School, Lenoir Rhyne University; and received his master’s degree from Appalachian State University. Mr. Huffman retired from the Wilkes County School System with 38 years of service, teaching math and coaching several sports. Following retirement he worked at the Hampton Inn in Jonesville with 20 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ernest Huffman and sisters, Marcia Brown and Mary Shelton.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 53 years, Mahala W. Huffman of the home; daughters, Haley H. Posey and husband Kyle of Virginia Beach, Kristen Huffman of Durham; grandson, Weston Posey brother, Ward Eller and wife Kate of Wilkes County; sisters, Joan Beshears of Wilkes County, Claudine Bell and husband John of Statesville; brother-in-law, Jack Shelton of Yadkin County; and sister-in-law, Laura Huffman of Wilkes County.

Mr. Huffman will lie-in-state Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 12:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. A private graveside service will be conducted at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church Building Fund, 118 N. Elkin Dr., Elkin, NC 28621 or Ruby Pardue Blackburn Adult Day Health Care Center, PO Box 984, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
