Audrey Dale Kraft

Audrey Dale Kraft, a beacon of resilience and a wellspring of joy, departed from this world on August 31, 2024, in the serene town of Thurmond, NC after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on May 25, 1939, in the bustling city of Brooklyn, NY, Audrey's life was a testament to the power of perseverance and the beauty of embracing every moment with passion. "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all," Helen Keller once said, a quote that Audrey embodied wholeheartedly.

From her early days at Calumet High in Calumet, MI, to the diverse paths she trod, Audrey never shied away from an opportunity to grow, learn, and blaze her own trail. Her career with Wilkes County NC social services was not just a job but a mission to uplift others. She poured her heart into her work at a women's drug rehab, leaving a legacy of hope and healing that will forever echo in the lives she touched. Audrey's spirit was unbreakable, much like the Finnish concept of "Sisu", which she proudly displayed on her car's tag. This strength of will, determination, and perseverance was not only her favorite term but also her way of life. She faced adversity with rational action and unwavering courage, inspiring all who had the fortune to cross her path. A woman of many passions, Audrey's love for horses and trail riding was a source of boundless joy. She pursued her dreams with gusto, even taking jumping lessons as an adult, proving that it's never too late to chase new horizons. Her pets, particularly her beloved cat named Sisu, were her cherished companions, each one holding a special place in her heart. Audrey's adventurous soul found solace in the art of traveling, with Italy holding a dear spot in her memories. Her fondness for the country traced back to the days when she lived there with her children's father, Tom. The Amalfi Coast, with its breathtaking views and vibrant culture, was her favorite retreat, a place where she felt most alive.

Her life journey was shared with her devoted husband, Richard Kraft, who preceded her, and together they crafted a tapestry of love and shared experiences that continue to wrap her family in warmth. Audrey's legacy lives on through her children, Eric LaRoche and wife Nancy, Tommy Lloyd and Neva Lloyd, and a special Angel, Jerri-Lee and her grandchildren, Christie and her husband Drew, Andrea, Allie, and Makenna, who each carry a spark of her indomitable spirit. Her sister, Christine Hodges and husband Robert, alongside Leslie and Raymond. Her great grandchildren Cecilia, Quinn Cabler will hold Audrey's memory as a guiding light. Audrey was a friend to all, her welcoming smile and open heart making her a cherished presence in any gathering. She was the embodiment of courage, never hesitating to leap into the unknown, and her friendly demeanor ensured she was never a stranger for long. As we remember Audrey Dale Kraft, let us carry forward the essence of her being -adventurous, courageous, and friendly-into our own lives. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Jeremy Simpson officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
