Mrs. Avanell Vivian Poindexter, age 86, of Elkin passed away Friday, January 28, 2022 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Poindexter was born January 28, 1936 in Wilkes County to James Edgar Johnson and Julia Estep Johnson.
Mrs. Poindexter was a member of West Elkin Baptist Church and retired from Sears.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Olin “J.O.” Poindexter; sister, Mozelle Johnson; and brother, Hubert Johnson.
Survivors include: her daughters, Scarlet Lyons and her husband Rocky of Elkin, Michelle Wagoner and her husband Greg of Elkin; sisters, Virginia Peele of Mt. Airy, Agnes Carlyle of Siloam, Audrey Scott of Siloam; half-brothers, James Johnson of Statesville, Dale Johnson; grandchildren, Clifton James “C.J.” Lyons and his wife Jenna, Austin Charles Lyons and his wife Ashley, Courtney Parrish and her husband Woody; great-grandchildren, Piper Lyons, Finley Lyons, Harvey Parrish, Olin Parrish; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, January 30, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds, Pastor Danny Poindexter, and Dr. Rex Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
