Betty Jean Walker Harris, a beacon of faith and kindness, passed away peacefully on September 4th, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on May 28th, 1931, Betty lived a life marked by unwavering devotion to her faith and an immense love for every person she encountered.
Betty was known for her boundless compassion and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel valued and cherished. Her genuine warmth and selflessness touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of love and generosity. She dedicated her life to her community, always finding ways to uplift others and spread joy.
A devoted member of Union Hill Baptist Church, Betty’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her strength and grace inspired many, and her steadfast belief in the goodness of people was evident in all she did. She will be remembered not only for her spiritual guidance but also for her infectious smile and her ability to see the best in everyone.
Betty is survived by her loving children Cindy Newman and husband Chris, Joel Harris and wife Lynn, her grandchildren Lance Newman, McKenzie Jordan and husband Stephen, Jessika Cave and husband Robert, Megan Adams and husband Brandon, Caleb Harris and wife Morgan, great grandchildren Audrey, Hudson, Hadley and Micah Jordan, Sawyer Cave, Amelia and Juliette Harris, sisters Noralee Simmons, Jack Trexler and husband Lester, and numerous extended family and friends who were fortunate to know her. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Marion and Eva Walker, her beloved husband, Mack Dan Harris, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion, her sister, Rebecca Carter Boles, and her beloved son Danny Harris.
A graveside service will be held at Union Hill Baptist Church, 1213 Union Hill Rd, Thurmond NC, 28683, with Rev. Greg Simmons officiating on Sunday, September 8th at 3:00PM, with a Celebration of Life service to follow in the church, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory and the profound impact she had on all who knew her. The family will also receive friends following the service. Flowers will be accepted or the family requests donations be made to Union Hill Baptist Church or Mountain Valley Hospice in Betty’s honor, reflecting her enduring commitment to helping others.
Betty Jean Walker Harris will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
The family would like to thank to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice, specifically Ramona Pardue, Elizabeth, Madison, and Ashely for the love and care shown to Betty during her illness. Special thanks to her nephew and Pastor Greg Simmons and his wife Nan.
