Brenda Combs Bauguess

Mrs. Brenda Bauguess, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024.  She was lovingly surrounded by her family, and we take comfort in knowing her last breath here was followed by her first breath in heaven.

She was born on October 26, 1949, at Hugh Chatham Hospital in Elkin to Robert “Clay” and Sylvia Combs.  She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Melissa Gale Bauguess, her parents, and brothers Dale and Danny Combs.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Steven Bauguess, son Mark Bauguess and wife Kim, daughters Teresa Couch and husband Chris, Julie Groce and husband Matt, grandchildren, Joshua Bauguess and wife Brooke,  Madison Smith and husband Cole, Tyler Couch, Kaleigh Couch, Caden Couch, Nathan Groce, Weston Groce, Adelyn Kate Groce and great-granddaughter Rowyn Gail Bauguess, siblings, Donald Combs, Michael Combs, Darrell Combs and wife Carolyn, Janice Combs, Glenda Narez and husband Willie, several nieces and nephews.

Brenda was a dedicated wife and mother.  She never missed an opportunity to support her family, from birthdays to ball games and every special occasion, she was always there.  She enjoyed an early retirement traveling, caring for her grandchildren, and often cooking for her entire family.

She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Elkin.  Within her church, she served on the children’s ministry team, was an Awana worker and teacher, and a Vacation Bible School volunteer.   She served many years at Pleasant Hill Daycare where she lovingly influenced the lives of many children and co-workers.

While our lives are forever changed, we are grateful for the legacy she leaves behind and look forward to one day seeing her again.  “Her children arise up, and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all “Proverbs 31:28-29 KJV.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds, and Rev. Joe Wood officiating.  Committal will follow in the church cemetery, with Rev. Bobby Norman officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to The Hill Project (Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Family Life Center) or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
