Carter Andrew Chu

Carter Andrew Chu, age 16, of State Road passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021. Carter was born July 1, 2005 in Wake County to Dr. Lam S. Chu and Cynthia Sebastian Chu.

Carter attended Elkin Valley Baptist Church and was a junior at Elkin High School. He was a member of the swim team, baseball team, and shooting team. Carter was active in student council and Beta Club.

The night of Saturday, October 23, 2021 a candlelight vigil was held at Elkin High School to reflect the love felt by his peers and teachers. Carter was well loved and loved everyone he met. He was known to value friendships and make all he encountered “feel seen.” And, just like his treasured Star Wars lightsabers, Carter lit up the world with his smile and love.

Carter was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Kwok Chu and maternal grandmother, Martha Sue Pendry Sebastian.

Survivors include: his parents, Dr. Lam and Cynthia Chu of the home; brother, Adam Sebastian Chu of the home; grandparents, Ken and Kay Sebastian of Moravian Falls, and Toyye Chu of Charlotte; uncles, Mon Chu and wife Yongna of Charlotte, Henry Chu and wife Deming of Wilmington, Kenny Sebastian and wife Amy of Boomer, Wing Chu and wife Mai Nguyen of Fort Mill, SC; aunt, Sue Schmitt and husband Paul of Princeton, MA; special cousins, Dr. Michael Schmitt and wife Kelly of Mooresville; Michael Chu of Cary; and numerous other cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, October 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dixon Auditorium at Elkin High School with Dr. Johnny Blevins and Rev. Keith Lyon officiating. A private burial will follow. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.  The family requests masks be worn by those attending all services.

The family requests memorials be made to Elkin High School Swim Team, Baseball Team or Beta Club, 334 Elk Spur Street, Elkin, NC 28621.
