Mr. Charles Colette Walls, Jr., age 94, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at SECU Hospice Center. Mr. Walls was born December 4, 1927 in Surry County to Charlie C. Walls, Sr. and Nona Holbrook Walls.
He was a member of Arlington First Baptist Church and retired from Chatham Manufacturing. Mr. Walls was a graduate of Elkin High School and served as the first editor-in-chief of The Elk yearbook. He had a passion for music and was talented in playing many different instruments. Mr. Walls had a great work ethic and enjoyed yardwork and being a handyman. He enjoyed traveling golf and cigars. Mr. Walls is a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ivadine Cockerham Walls; step-grandson, Christopher James Culler; sisters, Wilma Lee Walls and Frances W. Burcham; step great-grandson, Dean Ryan Hinshaw.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 43 years, Hattie Couch Walls of the home; son, Michael Charles Walls and wife Lori of Austin, TX.; daughter, Charlene Zachary and husband Frank of Yadkinville; step-sons; Charles Hinshaw and wife Monica of Wilkesboro, Ryan Hinshaw and wife Kimberly of Mt. Airy; step-daughters; Teresa Hinshaw Jasper and husband Richard of Elkin, Dana Hinshaw Culler of Elkin; grandchildren, Frank Curry Zachary, Jr. and wife Catherine, Michael Lee Zachary and wife Lauren, Matthew Charles Zachary and wife Cam, Olivia Ivy Walls and husband Dominic Dunham, Lily Ellum Walls; step grandchildren, Ashley Davidson, Amy Hinshaw Skaggs and husband Jim, Jackson Hinshaw, Brice Hampton Hinshaw and Elizabeth JoAnn Hinshaw; 2 great- grandchildren and 5 step great- grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Arlington First Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Alford and Rev. Jerry Fugate officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff of SECU Hospice Home and nurses; Bobbi, Brady, Robin, Sheri, Megan, and Laura and dear friend, Tracy Colbert Chappell who helped him around the house.
