Charlie Reece Settle

Mr. Charlie Reece Settle, age 98, of State Road moved to his eternal rest on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 from Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

Charlie was born March 23, 1926 in Wilkes County to Weaver and Ruth Shore Settle. He was the owner of Auto Parts and Service, Inc. in Jonesville and was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Charlie was a previous member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. 

Charlie enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17. He served in combat during WWII in the Philippines as a Tail Gunner on B-52 aircraft. Charlie received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery and heroism. Charlie was a lover of nature, an avid pilot and loved riding motorcycles and trail bikes. 

In addition to his parents Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Willie “Bill” Collins Settle; son, Billy Gwyn Settle; brother, Frankie Yarboro; nephew, John “Little John” Yarboro.

Survivors include his son, Charles R. Settle; daughter, Elizabeth King; brother, Eddie J. Yarboro and wife Mary; grandchildren, Justin L. Settle and wife Katie, David A. Cooper, and wife Stacey; great grandchildren, Britton Settle and wife Alexis, Elijah Settle, Julia Settle, Charity Strickland, Faith Strickland, Liam Cooper; great- great grandchildren, Emeline Settle, Charlie Settle and Alex Settle.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Whitley officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 2:45 pm prior to the service. Full military honors will be provided by Yadkin VFW Post 13046 at the church following the service. Interment will be private at Elkin Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
