Colleen Darnell Jones

Mrs. Colleen Darnell Jones, age 91, of Elkin passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at her residence. Mrs. Jones was born December 26, 1929 in Surry County to Robert Lee and Connie Ruth Talley Darnell.

Mrs. Jones was a longtime member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. She was very active in her church as long as her health permitted and delivered meals to those in the community with Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and Army wife and enjoyed spending time with and cooking meals for her family and those who had lost loved ones through the bereavement committee. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Ret. Robert Samuel “Bob” Jones; sisters, Joann Crater, Nancy Price; brother, James “Jim” Darnell.

Survivors include: her sons, Bobby Jones, Gordon Jones; daughter, Stacey Darnell and husband Donnie; brother-in-law, Joe Price; grandchildren, Elizabeth Darnell, Dylan Jones, Joey Jones, Hillary Jones; great-granddaughter, Olyvia Martin; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Blevins and Rev. Brad Sallee officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. Mrs. Jones will lie-in-state from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Masks are required for all services.
