David Blackburn

Mr. David Levoy Blackburn, age 71, of Roaring River passed away Monday, December 30, 2019 at his residence. Mr. Blackburn was born January 14, 1948 in Wilkes County to Fred and Mae Richardson Blackburn.

Mr. Blackburn was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church and a United States Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. David loved farming and horses and was the 1993 recipient of the Wilkes County Conservation Farm Family Award. Mr. Blackburn enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports and other activities.

Mr. Blackburn was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty Cockerham Blackburn of the home; sons, Mike Blackburn and wife Crystal of Roaring River, Travis Blackburn and wife Julie of Roaring River; brother, Larry Blackburn and wife Sharon of Elkin; grandchildren, Dustin Blackburn, Macy Strelko, Morgan Strelko, Ledger Blackburn, Phoenix Blackburn; niece, Heather Blackburn Gail; great nephews, Charlie Gail, Harry Gail; and several aunts and cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Danny Bauguess, Rev. Mike Smith, and Mrs. Jammie Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
