Dr. David Ross Stevens, age 79, passed away Monday, December 26, 2022 in Winston-Salem.
Dr. David R. Stevens was born February 9, 1943 in St. James, Missouri, to Neal and Bonita Stevens.
Dr. Stevens retired from the United States Air Force as a Captain with over 20 years of service. Dr. Stevens earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering as Valedictorian from the University of Missouri. He was honored as an instructor, and selected to the research team at the Frank J. Seiler Research Laboratories at the United States Air Force Academy. After retirement Dr. Stevens was the Director of Engineering at Lockheed Martin Corporation for 11 years. He was also a lecturer for the military and a professor at the University of Colorado as well as Surry Community College. Dr. Stevens served as president and CEO of two LLC’s. Outside of his numerous accomplishments he was well known as a devoted Christian and a faithful servant to The Lord Jesus Christ. He and his wife Betty were faithful attendees of many Christian churches across the United States where he served as an Elder, Bible conference lecturer and Sunday school teacher. Dr. Stevens was known as a humble, kind and patient person. He was described as a man, “If you met him you liked him.”
In addition to his parents, Dr. Stevens was preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Stevens and a brother, Gary Stevens.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Betty C. Stevens of the home; his son, Marc Stevens, MD and wife Kim of State Road; his daughter Shelly Angell and husband Ed of Benson; grandchildren, David Arthur Stevens, JoAnna Ruth Stevens, John Marc Stevens, Joshua Sheldon Stevens, Hannah Sue Stevens and Timothy Daniel Stevens.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Calvary Wesleyan Church at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Stanley Stogner officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Air Force and VFW post 10346.
