Donald Lee Watson

Donald Lee Watson, age 79, of Roaring Gap, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Lotus Village Center Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sparta.

Donald was born on June 20,1945 to Bethel Frank Watson and Helen Messick Watson.

Donald was a passionate collector, with a deep love for music and a talent for storytelling. His volunteer work at Merle Fest was a testament to his love for music. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, helping others, buying food for those in need, going on mission trips with the youth, and helping his wife Brenda teach in Sunday school. His stories were always the highlight of any gathering.

Donald was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Swaim Watson; brothers Foy Watson and Allen Watson; and his daughter-in-law; Theresa Watson.

Survivors include: his two sons; Craige Watson of Statesville, Shane Watson and wife Holly of Elkin; daughter Michelle Couch and husband Joe of Elkin, brothers; Tim Watson and wife Bonnie, Bill Watson and wife Tricia; sisters, Nancy Garris, Carol Byrd, Louise Cockerham and spouse Carly, Peggy Cambell and husband Daryl; grandchildren, Robin Watson, Matthew Watson, Laura Couch, and several loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds and Rev. Joe Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church youth and children’s department, a cause that was close to Donald's heart. Donations can be sent to 593 Pleasant Hill Dr, Elkin NC, 28621.
