Dorla Wagoner

Mrs. Dorla Hinson Wagoner, age 86, of Elkin passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Mrs. Wagoner was born June 8, 1935 in Surry County to Dallas Esker Hinson and Kate Collins Hinson.

Mrs. Wagoner was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church and supervisor at Lucia for over 20 years. She was the choir director and youth choir director at Poplar Springs Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed making floral arrangements and basket making having made over 400 handmade baskets. She loved her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lee Wagoner; sisters, Connie H. Nance, Ileene Hinson, Faye Eldridge; brothers, Leon A. Hinson, John D. Hinson, and Esker Hinson.

Survivors include: her daughters, Cathy Cockerham of Elkin, Vickie Lapp and husband Robb of Wilmington, Tammy Smith and husband Steve of Georgia; stepchildren, Peegie Wagoner and wife Patricia of State Road, Amy Mickle of Elkin, Gina Brendle of Elkin; sisters, Jane Merritt of State Road, Blenda Wagoner of Elkin; grandchildren, Ithyn Smith and wife Mariel of Georgia, Kate Hiatt and husband Robert of Wilmington, Halley Leffew and husband Jonathan of Georgia, Stephen Lapp of Durham, Madison Smith of Georgia; great-grandchild, Charlie Hiatt; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Blevins and Rev. Robert Lapp officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends outside under the Elkin Valley Baptist Church portico from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The family requests masks be worn by all attendees.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church, 118 N. Elkin Dr., Elkin, NC 28621 or Feed the Elderly, c/of Jane Motsinger, PO Box 125, Elkin, NC 28621.
