Dorothy Lee Wells

It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Lee Osborne Wells, age 90, of Jonesville North Carolina announces her passing on June 25, 2024 in her home. Dorothy was born October 17, 1933 to the late Huey Glen Osborne and Pearl Vaudie Harris Osborne.

Mrs. Wells was a piano and voice teacher at Studio 67, formerly Wells’ Music Center in Jonesville, N.C. She also started her sewing alteration shop called “A Stitch in Time”, when she was in her 80’s.

For 70 years, Mrs. Wells was a pianist, organist, and/or music director for several churches while teaching thousands of voice and piano students. She was proud of her students and their many accomplishments. Many of her students went on to play in churches, schools, colleges, and even Broadway! Her students are scattered throughout the United States and foreign countries. She not only taught music, but also taught life lessons. Mrs. Wells taught her students the most important thing in life; that success takes time and hard work.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Wells was preceded in death by her son Alvin Dale Wells, grandson Andrew Michael Wells, brother James Glen Osborne, and his wife Nellie Faye Osborne.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Hiram Mansfield Wells, Jr. of Jonesville, N.C., a daughter Laura Elaine Wells Parker (Ken) of Elkin, N. C., sons Hiram Michael Wells (Shirley) of Asheville, N.C., and Kenneth Lee Wells (Michelle) of Elkin, N.C.; grandchildren Jonathan Douglas Parker (Taylor), Sarah Elaine Parker (fiancé Ezra Atkinson), Kenley Faith Wells (Dillon Whisenhunt), Marshall Lee Wells, Mattie Leigh Wells, and a brother Ralph Clyde Osborne of Danville, VA.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to Campbell University for the Alvin D. Wells Memorial Scholarship, P.O. Box 116, Buies Creek, N.C., 27506, Attn: Advancement Office.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 30, 2024 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1900 Asbury Church Road, Hamptonville, N.C. Funeral service will follow at 4pm by Reverend Julie Bainbridge. Interment will follow at West Yadkin Baptist Church Cemetery, Hamptonville, N.C.
