Dorry Prevette Mathis

Mrs. Dorry Prevette Mathis, age 78, of Jonesville, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024, at her residence. Dorry was born in Wilkes County on September 10, 1945, to Eli Prevette and Era Lee Pardue Prevette.

Dorry worked as a hairdresser until she retired. She enjoyed painting, spending time with her family, and being very active with Swan Creek Baptist Church, of which she was a member.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy Mathis Shore, and a sister, Elaine Weaver.

Survivors include her husband, James Ray Mathis, of the home; daughter, Jill Mathis Crater and husband, Rodney, of Nebo, NC; sister, Karen Baity and husband, Leonard, of Millers Creek, NC; grandchildren Alex Wright, Reagan Wright and wife Addison, Meghan Crater ( Johnny Drosinis), and Cameron Crater (Jada Donaldson); great-grandchildren Sawyer Wright, Bradley Wright, and Jonah Wright; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., at Swan Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Scott Bishop and Rev. Ryan Weaver officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 -4:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
