Our Eternal and Holy Father God called home our dear Mother, V. Earline Cockerham Taylor, 84, on Friday, July 9 th in the early morning hours. Her closet friend and Royal Confidant, Master, and Savior, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Son of God brokered his life many years ago, and by doing so, allowed Mother an eternal home that is incorruptible, priceless, and will extend to everlasting eternity. Our Mother has served the Lord since she was a small child of age 8 and has been continuous and resolute with her faith and service. Mother died from complications in surgery after spunkily trying to kill a snake in her garage and falling. Our Mother was a very hard worker and was very giving to other people. She loved having a large garden. She was the “home canning” queen of the community. In her early years, she was employed with J.C. Penney and then the Green Stamp Store in Elkin, NC. At some point, she was employed at Washington Mills in Dobson, NC. Our Dad was transferred with his job to Spartanburg, SC, where she was employed with Belk in the handbag and accessories department. After our dad’s retirement, they moved back to Thurmond, NC and she was the Manager at Jan’s Fashion Outlet in Jonesville, NC. She was a fabulous cook and loved to cook at holidays and always made more than a small army could eat. Mother was very fastidious with her appearance and had an eye for what looked best on her. Mom was very determined and would speak her mind readily. She was very funny and could hold her own in the best of conversations. She was preceded in death by our Dad, William Dane Taylor, as well as our sister, Sue Taylor Crapps and her husband Don Wesley Crapps. Mother was the last of her generation. Her four brothers, Kent Harold Cockerham, Ralph Edward Cockerham, Donald Lewis Cockerham, and Walter Carl Cockerham, Jr. all preceded her in death, as well as, her sister, Norma C. Neely; their mother, Atta Eva Lewis Cockerham; and their dad, Walter Carl Cockerham, Sr. Remaining family members are her son, Gary Dane Taylor (fiancée Mary Ellen Werts), her daughter, Kimberly Taylor Watkins (Robert Sharp Watkins, Jr.), her grandchildren, Dr. Brianna C. Schraw, Brittany C. Gonzalez (Juan Jose Gonzales), Dana Drew Taylor (Kyle Todd Gilyard), Benjamin Blake S. Watkins (Allison Blaber Watkins), Wales Remington S. Watkins Risher (Matthew Carlisle Risher), Eva Noelle Madison Wakins. Her great-grandchildren are Jaidon Weslie Schraw, Kyleigh Saraya Schraw, Daisy Sue Watkins. Funeral service will be at Elkin Funeral Service at 560 NC Hwy 268 W, Elkin, NC 28621 on Saturday July 17, 2021. Wake will be held at 1:00 p.m. and services at 2:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o New River Shrine Club, PO Box 1065, Sparta, NC 28675.
