Mr. Elbert James “Jim” Bradley, Jr., age 87, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin. Jim was born July 14, 1937, in Surry County to Elbert James Sr. and Mozelle Burchette Bradley. Jim served the church as a Sunday school teacher, as a deacon, and became the chairman of the deacons. Jim graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1959, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree and NC High School Teachers Certificate. Jim was also very active in his community. He was a member of the Yosef Club, the American Society of Traffic & Transportation Inc. He was President of the NC Traffic League from 1980 – 1981, then was Chairman of the N. C. Traffic League from 1996 – 1998. Jim was the Alphian of the Year for the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, Inc. in 1983 and was President of the Winston-Salem Traffic Club 1987 – 1988. He retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company after 40 years of service.
Jim enjoyed golfing, traveling, collecting model trucks, and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Jannes Reece Bradley.
Survivors include: his son and daughter-in-law, David and Donna Bradley of Raleigh; daughter and son-in-law, Julia Bradley Macemore and Curtis of Maiden, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Libby Day of Elkin; grandchildren, Hannah and Dylan Papes, Jordan Elizabeth Macemore, James Winfield Macemore; great-granddaughter, Jessica Papes.
A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, July 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Dr. Danny Dodds officiating. The family will receive friends from1:00 to 2:00 prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Elkin, NC 28621, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Park Road #250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
