Emmalee Holbrook Cheek, age 87 of Elkin, NC passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Chatham Nursing & Rehabilitation.
Emmalee was born in Wilkes County on April 17, 1937, daughter to the late Earl Holbrook and Pauline Smith Holbrook. She is also preceded by her husband, Clyde Cheek and her sister Angelene Holbrook Baskins.
She is survived by her son, Robert “Bobby” Cheek, sister, Bettie Jean Balabous, sisters-in-law, Joyce Callaway and Lucille Groce; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Emmalee grew up in Elkin, NC and graduated from Elkin High School. Shortly after graduating Emmalee married Clyde Cheek. They eventually built their home in State Road and welcomed their son, Bobby. Emmalee worked for over 40 years at Centel Telephone Company. During her time there she received many awards and much recognition for her hard work.
After retiring Emmalee enjoyed traveling to the beach and across the United States with both family and friends. The most special trip to her was to Alberta, Canada to see her father’s homestead.
Emmalee was an active and dedicated member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. She was involved in the women’s group and contributed many hours to the annual bizarre. Emmalee was a two-time survivor of breast cancer, and she participated in several survival groups and fundraisers.
A funeral service will be held Monday, February 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Fugate officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
