Epsie Verna Blackburn “Granny” McCann, age 102, passed away on Thursday, December 26,
2024 at Woltz Hospice Home. She was born on June 6,1922 in Wilkes County to Lin Blackburn
and Rhonda Blackburn.
Epsie was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church. She loved her church and the people
there. She loved to garden, especially flowers and vegetables. Epsie was a hard worker and
worked most of her life, retiring at age 85. She worked at Chatham MFG, Sunbeam, Wall Rope
Candle Corporation, Winn Dixie Deli, and Austin Mill Sight-Broc.
Epsie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved her family
dearly. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and those in the
community that needed it. At one time, she was an avid quilt maker and mostly sewed in the
winter when she was unable to tend to her garden.
Epsie led a life full of love. She had a kindness for others and a great sense of humor. We are
grateful for the lessons she taught and the inspiration she gave us all through her acts of
selflessness.
In addition to her parents, Espie was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. McCann of 66
years, her sisters Hazel Tharpe, Ila Bell and husband Tom, Lenora Blackburn and husband
Brady, Estella ward and husband Jim, brothers Stace Balckburn, Vaughn Blackburn and wife

Survivors include her son, Larry McCann and wife Sara of Elkin, grandchildren Lora McCann
Judy and husband Jim of Raleigh, Michael McCann and wife Julie of Winston Salem, great
