Frances Sprinkle Harris

Frances Sprinkle Harris, age 91, of Elkin, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.
Frances was born February 27, 1932 in Surry County to Thomas Hampton and Retta Chapman Sprinkle, Sr.

Frances was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkin. In her younger years she was very active in the church community teaching  5 year-olds in Sunday school  and now was proud to be one of its oldest members. Frances, with her love of learning, decided to return to school herself. After graduating from Wake Forest University, she began her career teaching 7th graders in the Elkin City Schools. Frances also loved writing. In recent years many of her stories about family life and growing up in Elkin were published in the Tribune. She was very proud of this accomplishment and so enjoyed the attention it brought her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert"Cotton" Harris, brother, Tommy Sprinkle, Jr., grandson, Brandon Harris and her loving canine companion, Chris.

Survivors include: son, David “Cotton” Harris and his wife Cynthia of State Road; daughter, Jane Harris Jester of Lewisville; two sisters-in-law, Claudette Sprinkle of Elkin and Pat Wiles of Beaufort, NC; three grandchildren, Patrick Harris, Michael Jester, and Megan  Durham (Jordan); and four great grandchildren, Ally Kennedy, Erin Kennedy, Katelyn Kennedy, Lucas Durham; several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Elkin with Rev. Mark Reece and Dr. Bill Johnson officiating.  A reception will following the service in the church fellowship hall.
