Frank D. Young

Mr. Frank Dee Young, age 89 of Elkin, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 at his home. Mr. Young was born September 19, 1932 in Surry County to Columbus W. Young and Lula McBride Young. He was a graduate of Elkin High School class of 1952.  After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a corpsman during the Korean War. Later he attended the University of Houston in Houston, Texas and graduated with a major in Accounting.  He retired after twenty years with the Sunbeam Corporation in Elkin. Mr. Young was very active in the Elkin Community. He served ten years as an Elkin town commissioner, was a longtime member and past president of the Elkin Kiwanis Club, a member of VFW post 7794 of Elkin and a member of the Elkin Masonic Lodge 454. Mr. Young was an avid sports fan including being a longtime Atlanta Braves fan. After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and traveling.  Mr. Young was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jonesville.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Charlie Young, Jim Young, Carl Young, John Young, and his sisters, Myrtle Branon, Emma Underwood, Mae Dockery, Willie Stull and Betty Jo Fergason.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 61 years Millie B. Young of the home; son, Frank “Frankie” Young and his wife Lori of Elkin; and two grandchildren, Jonathan Young and Bailey Young.

A memorial Service will be conducted Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Denise Henry and Rev. Greg Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens at a later date.
