Mr. Glenn L. Goad, age 85, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Glenn was born June 12, 1937 in Surry County to George Goad, Sr. and Dora Sutphin Goad.
Glenn was a member of Little Elkin Baptist Church and a star basketball player at Flatrock High School. He began in the restaurant business at Rays Starlight in Mt. Airy and later started John Boys Barbecue. His last restaurant was Glenn’s in Jonesville. Glenn also sponsored a state championship softball team and sponsored a racecar at Friendship Motor Speedway.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Survivors include: his children, Anita Southard and husband Chris of Dobson, John Goad of Sparta, and Angie Mounce of Reston, VA; the mother of his children, Helen Marion of Mt. Airy; sister, Goldie Vogler and her husband Earl of Pfafftown; grandchildren, Chase Mounce, Carson Mounce, Clay Mounce, Eddie Brown and his wife Kayla, Candace Wilmoth and her husband Buzz; great grandchildren, Ellis Wilmoth, Aebry Murphy, Sailor Brown, Banks Brown; and special friend, Louise Houston of Dobson.
A celebration of life will be conducted Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Terrys Restaurant, formerly Glenn’s in Jonesville, with Rev. James Pardue and Rev. Matty Ponce de Leon officiating. A fellowship meal for friends and family will follow.
The family would like to thank staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home and a special aunt, Pam Wood for their care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
