Harvey Franklin "Mickey" Hayes

Mr. Harvey Franklin (Mickey) Hayes, Jr. of Elkin passed away Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024. He was born April 26, 1948 in Elkin, NC to Lola Layell and Harvey Franklin Hayes, Sr. Mr. Hayes was a member of the EHS class of 1966, he graduated from Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA and also from Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC with a bachelor’s degree in theology. He served briefly as a youth minister at Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness in Anderson, SC and also served as a pastor at Lowndesville Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lowndesville, SC. He retired from Kentucky Derby Hosiery in Mt. Airy, NC after serving there for 23 years.  He enjoyed cars and mechanics (particularly Dodge muscle cars and trucks), antiquing, and he loved talking about his grandchildren and his beloved dogs.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle (Gary) Adams of Elberton, GA, Heather (Thomas) Salley of Elkin, four granddaughters Cameron and Callie Adams, Lola and Julia Salley, and one sister, Jan Hayes Moore of Greenville, SC and special canine friend, Dolly.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 6th from 2-3 pm at Elkin Funeral Service with memorial service to follow in the chapel at 3pm, conducted by Rev. Mark Reece and Rev. Justin Bell. There will be a private graveside service for the family at a later date.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Hugh Chatham staff (particularly the wonderful ICU team) for their loving care of Mr. Hayes and our family, as well as the staff of Pruitt Health and Yadkin Valley Senior Living where Mr. Hayes resided during his illness.
