Hazel York Cochrane

Hazel York Cochrane, age 94, formerly of Elkin passed away peacefully Thursday, March 27th, 2025, at Trinity Elms Assisted Living in Clemmons. Hazel was born July 20th, 1930, in Surry County, to Edmond R. York and Bessie Hemric York Stanley.

In addition to her parents Hazel is preceded in death by her husband, Don W. Cochrane Jr. and her brother, Henry Stanley.

Hazel is survived by her daughters, Janice Cochrane of Clemmons and Nancy Bledsoe and husband Paul of Bermuda Run, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Hazel was a lifelong Baptist and member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, part of the first bus ministry, and was a delegate to the Elkin Baptist Association. Hazel was a member of the Hugh Chatham Women’s Auxiliary with over 1000 service hours making caps for newborns. Hazel was a founding leader of Girl Scout troop 278 in North Elkin. Professionally she and her husband owned and operated State Road Hardware Inc. and the Country Korner Shopping Center until their retirement in 1993. Hazel was an extremely talented woman. She was an avid gardener, excellent cook, homemaker, wife, and mother. She loved the beach and the mountains and was fearless.

A private service will be held at a later date.

The family is grateful to the Trinity Elms Assisted Living in Clemmons for their compassion, love, and excellent care and Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem.
