Helen Mae Cox

Helen Mae Cox, age 76, affectionately known to those who loved her as “Duck, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022. Her battles here now over, she is rejoicing in heaven in a new, perfect body.

Duck was born February 6, 1946 in Surry County to Earl and Nellie Terry Cox. A true blessing to all who knew her, she loved to sing and dance and spent countless hours watching the bird feeders outside her window.

In addition to her parents, Duck was preceded in death by her brothers, Tommy Cox and Brady Cox; sister, Faye Poteat; and a nephew, Keith Cox.

Duck is survived by her brother, Ray Cox and wife Jean of Thurmond; niece and devoted caregiver Patty Smith and husband David of Elkin; sister-in-law Pearl Cox of the home; nephew, Barry Cox and wife Dee of Elkin; niece, Chrissy Rhodes and husband Andy of Elkin; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 15, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jim Holbrook officiating. Burial will follow in Shoaly Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
