Henry Franklin Wood

Mr. Henry Franklin Wood, age 96, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022 at Willowbrook Rehabilitation and Care Center in Yadkinville.

Mr. Wood was born April 13, 1925 in Wilkes County to Joseph Franklin Wood and Phoebe Durham Wood. Mr. Wood came from large family of eleven brothers and sisters, he was a loving husband and a caring father. Mr. Wood proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and earned the rank of corporal before being discharged in February of 1946. After returning home from the army Mr. Wood married his wife Bonnie of nearly seventy-two years.

In addition to his parents Henry was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Hayes Wood; a son Kermit Wood; a daughter and son-in-law Lana Wood Brendle and Jay Brendle; sisters Dorothy Brown, Pearl Wood, Rosa Lee Hayes and Ruth Wood; brothers Delos Wood, Roger Wood; sister-in-law Libby Wood.

Survivors include: son, Terry Wood and his wife Rebecca of Jonesville; brothers, LC Wood, Ransome Wood, Bobby Gene Wood and his wife Faye, David Lee Wood and his wife Kathy; a daugther-in-law Mary Wood; grandchildren, Jayme Holt, Neil Brendle, Steve Wood, Pam Hutchens and Brian Wood; great grandchildren, Morrison Brendle, Erin Brendle, Ava Brendle, Jarrett Wood, Elizabeth Hutchens, Nicole Hutchens, Alexis Hutchens, McKenzie Hutchens, Danielle Hutchens, and Logan Hutchens.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Knobbs Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Wood and Rev. Bobby Prevette officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
