Hiram Mansfield Wells, Jr.

It is with great sadness that the family of Hiram Mansfield Well, Jr. (H.M.), age 94, of Jonesville, announces his passing on January 2, 2025, in his home. He was born in Guilford County on January 3, 1930, to the late Hiram Mansfield Wells, Sr. and Vallie Anderson Wells

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, and a member of West Yadkin Baptist Church in Hamptonville, N.C. 

Mr. Wells was employed by Chatham Manufacturing in Elkin, N.C., and John Boyle Manufacturing in Statesville, N.C. Along with working public jobs, he was a farmer, including cattle, poultry, tobacco, corn, and bean crops. He also owned and managed several rental properties, forming lifelong friendships. Mr. Wells worked hard all his life, and when things didn’t work out as planned, he would always say, “Wait a minute” and “It’ll be alright”.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wells was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lee Osborne Wells; a son, Alvin Dale Wells; a grandson, Andrew Michael Wells; a brother, Jack Wells; sisters, Fern Wells Templeton, Blanch Wells Sale, Vennie Wells Souther, twins.

He is survived by a daughter, Laura Elaine Wells Parker (Ken) of Elkin; sons, Hiram Michael Wells (Shirley) of Asheville and Kenneth Lee Wells (Michelle) of Elkin; grandchildren Jonathan Douglas Parker (Taylor), Sarah Elaine Parker Atkinson (Ezra), Kenley Faith Wells ( Dillon Whisenhunt), Marshall Lee Wells, and Mattie Leigh Wells; two sisters, Dorothy Wells Rash (Rayford) and Pearl Wells Trivette; and a sister-in-law, Alma Jean Wells.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. Joe Souther and Rev. John Attaway officiating. Interment will follow at West Yadkin Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:30 before the service.
