Howard "Buck" Freeman

Mr. Howard Edward “Buck” Freeman, age 91, of State Road passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at his home. Mr. Freeman was born June 8, 1929 in Surry County to John Franklin and Irene Benge Freeman.

Mr. Freeman retired from the United States Navy and was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School superintendent for many years. After retiring from the Navy, Buck worked with Jake Guyer as a contractor/quality control at Southeast Metal Works for several years. Mr. Freeman was also a member of the Elkin Masonic Lodge 454.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Frank Freeman, Jr.

Survivors include: his wife, Polly Adams Freeman of the home; sons, Dale Freeman and wife Teri of Johns Creek, GA, Danny Freeman and wife Melissa of Elkin; grandchildren, Drew Freeman, Hannah Blake Clontz and husband Tyler; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Rod Nixon of Boonville; brother-in-law, Herbert Adams of Elkin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, June 12, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Whitley and Dr. Roger Hensley officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard and Yadkin VFW Post 10346 in the church cemetery. Mr. Freeman will lie-in-state from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
