Jake Near

Mr. Everett LeRoy “Jake” Near, age 85, of Elkin passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at his home. Mr. Near was born June 27, 1936 in Tampico, IL to Russell and Ruby Waltz Near.

Mr. Near was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a retired driver with Hardy Brothers. He was a retired United States Air Force veteran serving from 1953-1973 and member of Yadkin VFW Post 10346.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Russell Near, Jr., Eugene Near, Bill Near, Lester Near, Marvin Near; sisters, Shirley Hubbard, Patsy Terry, and Linda Near.

Survivors include: his loving wife of over 39 years, Linda Money Near of the home; son, Dwight Hemric and wife Jamie; sisters, Beverly Nailor of Jonesville, Shelby Kaehler of Rock Falls, Il; grandchildren, Leeza Riddle, Jacob Hemric and wife Annamae; and great-granddaughter, Reagan Chevelle Riddle.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Snow and Rev. John Cox officiating. Burial will full military honors provided by United States Air Force Honor Guard and Yadkin VFW Post 10346 will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
