James William Gregory, a beloved member of the Clingman community, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the age of 82. James was born on February 5, 1941, in Yadkin County to Thomas Odell Gregory and Elva Loray Templeton Gregory. He was a licensed plumber who retired from P&H Service after 34 years of dedicated service. James was known for his generosity and volunteered his skills in plumbing, HVAC, heavy equipment, and general handyman work to help others in the community.
James had a passion for NASCAR, and enjoyed both watching races on TV and attending them in person. During his time in Florida, he pursued his interest in racing as an amateur race car driver and mechanic. He had an engineering mindset and loved collecting and tinkering with various items. In his leisure time, he played Rook with friends in the old barbershop in his garage, enjoyed fishing, and cherished spending quality time with his family.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Gregory.
James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara S. Gregory, and his sons Richard Gregory (wife Melinda) and Brian Gregory (wife Donielle). He is also survived by his brother Gilbert Gregory, sisters Faye Kerley, Annette Spencer, and Robin Lankford (husband Allen), as well as his grandchildren Jessica Gregory, Emily Gregory, Reed Gregory, and Caleb Gregory.
The funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Dwayne Byrd. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. at the church.

James had a particular fondness for watching eagles in their nests via an online camera.
