Mr. James “Jimmy” Alexander Johnson, age 79, of Traphill passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Jimmy was born February 15, 1940 in Wilkes County to Vance and Velna McBride Johnson.
Jimmy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a life-long farmer and good neighbor. Jimmy attended Old Roaring River Baptist Church and retired from Chatham Manufacturing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amanda Jo Hodge and brother, Edward Lewis “Lou” Johnson.
Survivors include: his wife of 53 years, Ruby H. Johnson of the home; son, Dakota James Johnson (Angel) of Traphill; daughters, Sheila Johnson Cranford (“Big Jamey”) of Traphill, Frankie Ann Heida (Andressa) of Traphill, Janice Wilmoth (Kenny Ledbetter) of Elkin; special nephew, Jamie Johnson (Susan) of Traphill, Philip Lovett, father of Selena and Alisha; brothers, Quincy Johnson (Ann) of Traphill, Bobby Johnson (Judy) of Traphill, Tom Johnson (Helen) of Traphill; sister, Frances Mounce (Wade) of Elkin; grandchildren, “Lil’ Jamey” Cranford (Eden), Rebekah “Becky” Cranford (Brandon Loredo); Selena Kristin Lovett, Alisha Nichole Mabe (Sam), Austyn Reese Johnson, Sunny Vance Wilmoth (Royer Calderon); great-grandchildren, Marshall Lee Welborn, Morrigan Grace Whitley, Gunner Lee Wilmoth, Andrew Niklaus Calderon, Aleksas Nova Calderon; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, January 9, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Old Roaring River Baptist Church with Rev. James Pardue officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
The family requests memorials be made to Old Roaring River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 13932 Longbottom Rd, Traphill, NC 28685.
The family would like to thank the staff of the cardiac ICU at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for their care.
