Mr. James Robert “Moonpie” Viles, Sr, age 67, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022 at UNC Medical Center at Chapel Hill. Moonpie was born January 26, 1955 in France to John Robert Viles and Bertha Lou Blevins Viles.
Moonpie was a United States Army National Guard veteran and was honorably discharged in 1981. He was a truck driver and mechanic and an avid Harley Davidson fan. Moonpie was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Wayne Triplett and grandparents, Elmore and Epsie Blevins.
Survivors include: his son, James Robert Viles, Jr. and his fiancée Courtney of GA; daughters, Kimberly Viles Money and her husband Randall of Elkin, Beverly DeeAnn Viles of Sanford, Tracy Viles Gregory and her husband Harvey of Elkin; brothers, Ricky Viles and his wife Carolyn of McGrady, Alton Ray “Dinker” Hensley of Hays; sisters, Mary Triplett of Hays, Jana Lee Triplett of Hays; grandchildren, James Amburn, Traeson Colbert, Zachary Williams, Alyssa Viles, Autumn Viles, Breanna McBride, Hattie Elledge, Paisley Gregory; great-grandchild, Everett Whitley; niece, Kelly Stuckey; and special nephew, Marty Spears.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, April 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at People’s Baptist Tabernacle with Rev. Jonathan White officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
