Jane Cranford Seaman

Jane Seaman, age 80, passed from life on the evening of August 20, 2023, in Chesterfield, VA. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Seaman; her two sons, Brad (Christina) and David (Arjeta); her two granddaughters, Addelyn and Isabella; her sisters, Helen and Alice, and many nieces and nephews.

Jane was a strong believer in early childhood development and life-long education. Her passion for children’s literature and her interest and engagement in her local community guided her in both professional and private life. Jane managed Edward T. Rabbit & Co. Books for Children in Henrico, VA throughout the 1990s. Thereafter she managed the gift shop of The Valentine Historical Museum in Richmond, VA until her retirement in 2013.

She was an avid reader and lover of books. She read for enjoyment and purpose, seeking to expand her outlook on life and living. Always taking a strong interest in foreign cultures and eagerly seeking new experiences, Jane traveled extensively with family and friends. Her love for art, music and history took her through countless museums, theaters and markets in North America and Europe.

Jane touched on all that came into her life with kindness and generosity. Her love for and devotion to her family was unmatched. Her passing is an immense loss for all who knew her. She will be missed dearly.

In honor of Jane’s life, her family will hold a memorial service on October 20, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service with Dr. Bill Johnson officiating.  The family will receive friends following the memorial service.  A committal service will follow at Hollywood cemetery.
