Mrs. Jean Spainhour Key, age 84, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. She was born May 2, 1936 in Yadkin County to Kellus and Flossie Kimmer Spainhour. Mrs. Key was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church and retired from Lucia. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved family gatherings, gardening and reading her Bible.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Ervin Key, sons-in-law; Larry Anderson and Michael Cox, brothers, Johnny Spainhour and Henry Spainhour and sister, Nancy Parrish.
Survivors include: son, Jackie Luffman and his wife Rebecca of State Road; daughters, Linda Anderson of Elkin, Janet Anderson and her husband Gary of Elkin and Tammy Cox of Ronda; brother, Ray Spainhour and his wife Hilda of Pilot Mountain; sister, Gladys Goins of State Road; grandchildren, Jennifer Jordan and her husband Joseph, Cory Cox and his wife Lila, Ryan Cox and his wife Deanna, Mitch Anderson, Laken Lowe and her husband Matt, Matthew Anderson, Beau Martin and his wife Hannah, Brooke Martin and Chase Luffman and great grandchildren, Isaiah Anderson, Mason Cooke, Malaki Jackson, Emma Testerman, Bella Jordan, Kinsley Cox, Jace Ryan Cox, Wade Cox, Rosey Cox and River Lowe.
Mrs. Key will lie-in-state Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. at Maple Springs United Methodist Church. A private graveside service will be conducted at Maple Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Smith officiating.
The family would like to thank Dr. Garba, the staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital; ICU nurses, Ashley and Kristin; respiratory therapist, Tommy Testerman and the staff of Chatham Nursing and Rehab for their care.
